These beautifully simple mittens were inspired by Tansy’s golden, button-like flowers. One of Tansy’s English names is ‘Golden Buttons’.

3.5 mm circular needle, 80 cm
4 mm circular needle, 80 cm
removable stitch markers
tapestry needle
3.5 mm crochet hook
GAUGE: 18 sts x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch with 4 mm needles
YARN:
Main color: Aran weight wool yarn
Contrast color: DK weight yarn held single or fingering weight yarn held double
Recommended yarns: Pirtinkehräämö Hahtuvalanka 285 tex x2 (175 m/100 g) and Jalovilla Vuona held double (205 m/50 g)
YARDAGE:
Main color – 70 (80) 90 g of recommended yarn or at least 130 (140) 160 m of other Aran weight yarn
Contrast color – 5 g of recommended yarn or at least 20 m of other DK weight yarn held single or fingering weight yarn held double
The mittens are knitted bottom-up, with a gusset thumb and wrong side facing out.
The Tansy flowers are crocheted onto the back of the hand as you go.
