If you want to add a touch of character to your home without disrupting the overall flow – start with the bathroom. It’s the one space in the home where the boldest ideas often make the biggest impact.
Many people want to keep their home’s look understated and cohesive, but at the same time, there’s a burning desire to try something bolder. The answer is often found in the smallest room of the house: the powder room. It’s the perfect place to test patterns, colors, and wallpapers that might feel like too much elsewhere in the home.
What if the smallest spaces in the home could be the ones that surprise you visually?
In the Lake House project, we decided to use the bathrooms as a field for experimentation – places to play with prints, colors, and patterns without breaking the home’s harmonious lines.
By using different tile patterns, we combined classic-toned floor tiles into a beautiful and interesting ensemble that brought the desired graphic look to the space. When a floral wallpaper that matched the same color palette was added, it provided just the right amount of surprise and coziness. Dark furniture and brass faucets finish the look in these bathrooms, giving the rooms a structured and balanced feel.
The design of this space combines boldness and timelessness. Patterns have been used on both the walls and floors, but the color palette has been kept understated and consistent. This way, the spaces remained calm, even though they have more visual layering than other areas of the home. The result is classic, warm, and inviting.
3 tips for
decorating your bathroom
- Choose a bold wallpaper. Let the walls surprise you, but stick to the home’s chosen color scheme to ensure the overall look remains harmonious.
- Play with floor tiles. Solid-colored tiles with different laying patterns bring depth and character to a classic ensemble.
- A thoughtful detail. A brass faucet or a single striking light fixture can be the element that takes the space to the next level.
